SADSTIA’s Annual Review 2025 is available now

Since long-term fishing rights were allocated in 2022, six new vessels valued at approximately R600 million have entered the trawl fishery for hake, reflecting strong confidence in a fishery that is tightly regulated, certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and integrated into some of the world’s most demanding seafood markets. Key achievements in 2025 included the launch of three pilot projects designed to test new approaches to responsible fishing, the implementation of a self-monitoring programme and the start of the re-assessment of the fishery ahead of an anticipated fifth certification by the MSC.

In 2026, the focus remains on securing MSC certification, improving reporting and monitoring and extending the benefits of a sustainable and well-managed fishery to the communities in which it operates. Read the full Annual Review to explore these topics and more.
